Another Woman Murdered

Nineteen-year-old Chantelica Thompson was found dead, at her home in Gingerland, Nevis, which she shared with her boyfriend, Delvin Wilkinson, the father of her infant daughter. It was reported by police that she “was found lying in the house in a pool of blood. She was fully clothed and officers observed what appeared to be a stab wound.”

Reports indicated that Thompson’s body had been subjected to multiple stab wounds, as well as blunt force trauma to the skull. She was said to have been wearing her work uniform. Thompon’s death brought the murder toll on Nevis to five. It is the 21st murder, this year, in St. Kitts-Nevis.

Is this how we solve our problems here in the Federation, we just behave as though we have no moral upbringing and take the life of another, is the value of life so little that it means nothing to us? We are sinking into a quagmire, an abyss of savage barbaric behaviour and we as citizens seem to be okay with that, why are we allowing these persons to put us and keep us in this state of fear. We need to sit up and say out loud enough is enough and we want our country back and we're taking it back.

Just a gentle reminder that Miss Thompson was related to Shermel Phillip, who was also murdered. Her estranged husband, was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Are we going to stand up for our country? When are we going to do so if we are?

YouTube Video Troubles

The YouTube video of Hon. MP Eugene Hamilton sleeping before the parliamentary session began, and which is said to be modified, is bordering on a request for serious legal action against the individual or individuals, on the part of the Hon. MP for Constituency #8, as it portrays him as not doing the peoples work.

If as stated by the Hon. MP in this weeks Observer, this was taken before the session even started, then the video is infact an act of deception and deceit. We as a people have to say enough is enough and put a stop to this, as we may otherwise be saying that it is okay to do whatever you want and we the people won't do anything about it.

Interestingly the Leader of the Opposition also decried this video and stated similar experiences, which as we all agree can lead to a security problem for all of us, because if it can be done to these men, who says it won't be done to us as well.

How Clean Is Our Water After Montserrat's Ash?

With the large amounts of ash being dumped on our beautiful islands from the Soufriere Hills Volcano in Montserrat, has the Nevis Island Administration or the Nevis Water Department done anything to inform the public about what effects the resultant ash may have on our water supply.

The contamination from volcanic ash is mainly high turbidity and acidity, the turbidity is as a result of the chemicals that the volcanic ash is made up of, which in itself causes the PH level to drop. Chemicals such as sulphur dioxide/sulphur etc.

NWD should be putting in place carbon filters through which the islands water should pass before going to the households. These Carbon (Charcoal) filters are very effective in cleaning the contaminants mentioned above.

So the question begs, what are those in a position of authority doing to protect the citizens of our fair island?

TAXI OPERATORS ROBBED AT GUNPOINT

Police are investigating the armed-robbery of two taxi drivers in the early hours of Monday morning.

“At about 12:30 a.m. on the 25th of May, two armed masked men entered the taxi stand at Frigate Bay just next to the Marriott Hotel, and robbed two taxi drivers who were in the stand, of their cell phones and a sum of money,” Police Public Press and Relations Officer Inspector Cromwell said on Tuesday.

“They made their escape. The Police responded, but to date no one [has] been arrested,” Henry said.

The taxi stand is just a few hundred yards away from the Frigate Bay Police Station.

Yet the criminals were able to complete their task of robbing the hard working taxi drivers and get away without a scratch or a warning... when are we going too get serious about crime in the federation... we all have a part too play and we need to stand up for what's right, right now!

Not Guilty Verdict

Rolston Caines charged with causing the death of Valencia Robins, 18, of Jessup’s Village by reckless driving and dangerous driving was found not guilty on both counts Tuesday.
The charges were as a result of the fatal accident on Jan. 18 2008.
Valencia was killed when she was struck by a pickup truck as she walked along the main road at Bath Plains, near the RAMs Supermarket, about 7:30 p.m.
The pickup truck driven by Caines of Morning Star, was traveling from the direction of Charlestown when the vehicle collided with Ms. Robins.
The jury took nearly three hours to come to an 11-1 not guilty verdict on the causing death by reckless driving and a 10-2 not guilty verdict on the dangerous driving charge.

False Report and Police shooting

(Charlestown, Nevis) – Police opened fire on a car that looked suspicious after receiving a false report of a robbery in progress Tuesday evening.

According to the St. Christopher Nevis Police Force Public Relations Officer Inspector Cromwell Henry, Police in Charlestown received a report of a robbery in progress at the Lau Chinese Restaurant on Old Hospital Road at about 7:20 pm on April 28. Officers responded and surrounded the area. During their patrol of the area, officers saw a dark colored motor car with tinted windows of which they became suspicious. They attempted to stop the car, but the driver accelerated as he approached the officers, who scuttled out of the path of the car then opened up on the vehicle as it made its escape.

The robbery report was subsequently deemed false after the officers spoke with the owners of the restaurant.
